The 3 types of perfume existing

There are three notable types of perfume:

• The perfumes based on alcohol, of volatile shapes are the best known and most common, they allow to leave on the skin only the perfume. Most products such as sprays and deodorants contain alcohol to ensure their preservation.
• Oily fragrances, between alcohol-based fragrances and solids, have the advantage of being very soft on the skin, often used to moisturize the epidermis.
• Solid fragrances (also called perfume concrete) are a variation of oily fragrances. As the name suggests, they are solid (thanks to shea butter, vegetable oils and usually beeswax). For example, they apply to the inside of the wrists or behind the ears and are practical in a handbag.

The 3 types of notes

As a good perfumer would say, to create a good perfume you have to know beforehand the three types of smells called "notes". It is by combining these notes that we achieve a successful and balanced fragrance.

• The top note is usually the smell you smell in the foreground. It is the most volatile and the fastest to dissipate, but it is the one that will give your perfume its sparkling, its dynamism or its freshness.
• The heart note is this that gives your perfume the necessary harmony between the top note and the background note. You can feel its sweetness immediately behind the top note.
• The background note is the one that will ensure the stability and longevity of the fragrance. It is the most powerful aroma, the heaviest that persists, the slowest smell to dissipate. She's the last one to be felt and she's still feeling when the other two are gone.

How to make a natural fragrance?

As you will have understood for a homemade perfume, the notes of substance, heart and head are always combined. Being the most practical, we will see how to make an alcohol-based perfume.

First of all you should know that we tend to use several essential oils for the top notes (which we feel first), and not to exceed 2 or 3 essential oils for the notes of substance and heart combined.

Then you have to add 90% or 70% alcohol, unnatured or vodka or gin less strong in alcohol. For a totally organic fragrance use a 30 ml glass spray bottle.

A recipe?

Here is a rather feminine fragrance with floral, aromatic aromas at the same time and especially with orange blossom.
In a 30 ml glass bottle add:

• 30 ml 70-degree alcohol or organic vodka (about 3 tablespoons)
• 10 drops of neroli essential oil (orange blossom)
• 5 drops of real lavender essential oil
• 5 drops of small grain bigarade
• 10 drops of bergamot essences can be added
• Optional to "fix" perfume: 1 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin (in pharmacies, at the drogic or on the Internet)

Leave to rest in the refrigerator for 48 hours and shake the bottle regularly to spread the aromas in the alcohol.
